A new report commissioned by Health Research BC evaluates the current state of BC’s clinical trials ecosystem.

The report assesses BC’s overall competitiveness in clinical trials and compares it to other provinces. It acknowledges strengths such as BC’s world-class facilities and expertise, while noting opportunities to improve the province’s current underperformance in clinical trial investments and per capita funding.

The report also identifies challenges facing the clinical trials ecosystem, such as lengthy study start-up times, bureaucratic complexity, and underdeveloped infrastructure.

The report’s findings include key insights to enhance BC’s competitiveness:

  • establish an ecosystem convener
  • mandate centralized and harmonized review mechanisms
  • integrate clinical trials into clinical care
  • leverage health data

Health Research BC is one organization within the province’s clinical trials ecosystem. The organization looks forward to contributing activities and expertise within the mandate to those of other organizations to strengthen the clinical trials ecosystem in this province.
