With spring comes renewed energy and excitement for the year ahead. Alongside integrating and advancing the Research Ethics Harmonization Initiative, Clinical Trials British Columbia remains focused on key projects and valuable deliverables.

This month, we are pleased to spotlight innovations in research ethics and provide updates on core projects and events.

We would also love to hear from you. Please share any feedback you have on our new website and how it is working for you. Email us at researchethics@clinicaltrialsbc.ca.

Updates to the BC Common Clinical Informed Consent Form (BC CCICF) Project

The BC Common Clinical Informed Consent Form (BC CCICF) is being updated to better reflect today’s health research environment in BC. The template review and feedback are now complete and revisions are underway. This is the final step before dissemination. A huge thank you to our chair, advisors and working group members for all their work so far.

2026 Research Ethics Board Administrator (REBA) Harmonization and Education Event

Ethical review is a vital part of research, protecting participant wellbeing and upholding trust in science. Research ethics professionals need a forum where they can come together to discuss emerging trends and share best practices. The Harmonization & Education Event provides this opportunity and is returning in June 2026.

While this is an invite-only event, a summary of our 2025 event is available for all to view.

Carrier Sekani Family Services

Carrier Sekani Family Services participates in the harmonized research ethics community and collaborate with colleagues from 27 other research ethics boards.

Building on CSFS’s long standing role in overseeing community-based research through internal research review processes, the recent establishment of the CSFS Research Ethics Board (REB) strengthens systems that guide ethical, Indigenous-led health and wellness research.

The CSFS REB is centred on community interests and values throughout the research lifecycle and supports its communities and research partners in navigating research ethics processes. This marks another step forward in building systems that guide ethical Indigenous health and wellness research. Congratulations Jana and everyone at Carrier Sekani Family Services!
